Ian is internationally regarded as the current leading authority on the nineteenth-century history of the Zulu kingdom, and in particular the Anglo-Zulu War.
He has been researching and writing on the subject for more than thirty years, publishing such acclaimed works as “Zulu Rising: The Epic Story of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift” and “Brave Men’s Blood: The Epic of the Zulu War”. His The National Army Museum Book of the Zulu War was joint winner of the Royal United Services’ Institute Award for ‘Best Military History Book’.
