The Glorious First of June

The NHSA is delighted and honoured to welcome Andrew Lambert, Laughton Professor of Naval History at Kings College London, Department of War Studies, as our speaker for this event in which we study the great Revolutionary War naval battle of the Glorious First of June. Andrew is one of the nation’s most prominent naval historians who has written extensively on the naval and strategic history of the British Empire between the Napoleonic Wars and the First World War. His many publications covering conflict in the age of sail include War at Sea in the Age of Sail, Weidenfeld & Nicolson (2000) and Nelson: Britannia’s God of War, Faber and Faber (2004). He received the 2014 Anderson Medal for The Challenge: Britain against America in the Naval War of 1812 as well as the prestigious Gilder Lehrman Book Prize in Military History in 2014 and Hattendorf Prize for Distinguished Original Research in Maritime History in 2024.Andrew is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and also Director of the Laughton Naval Unit.
