The Battle of Waterloo

June 15 @ 09:00 - June 16 @ 17:00

The NHSA is delighted and honoured to welcome Major General (Retired) James Cowan CBE DSO as our speaker for this event in which we study what is probably the most well-known battle of the Napoleonic Wars. James has had a long and very distinguished military career that included command of the 1st Battalion, The Black Watch, 11th Brigade in Afghanistan and 3rd Division  as well as the position of Head of Counter Terrorism in the Ministry of Defence. Since leaving the army James has been Chief Executive of the HALO Trust and a founding trustee of Waterloo Uncovered, the most significant archaeological project ever conducted at the battlefield, which involves both veterans and serving personnel. James has also embarked on a giant recreation of the battle in a diorama form, taking inspiration from Siborne’s famous model, which has been exhibited at the National Army Museum. The talk will take place at 12 noon on Saturday 15 June 2024. Please contact Philip Marshall on 07946 041733 if you would like to attend.
