He has taught at the University of South West England\, Glasgow University\, and Winchester College. As a leading expert on Stalingrad and the Eastern Front more generally his critically acclaimed works include “Stalingrad: How the Red Army Triumphed”\, “Total War: From Stalingrad to Berlin”\, “Leningrad: State of Siege”\, “The Retreat: Hitler’s First Defeat” and most recently “After Hitler: The Last Days of the Second World War in Europe”.. He has also conducted battlefield tours of the Eastern Front for several years.
