The NHSA is delighted to welcome Charles Singleton once again as our speaker for this event in which we study one of the decisive conflicts of the English Civil War: the great battle for the North of England at Marston Moor. Charles was the editor of the Oxford Companion to Military History and is the author of several books on early modern warfare and the Civil War period specifically, including Famous by my Sword: The Army of Montrose and the Military Revolution and Uncharitable Mischief: Barbarity and excess in the British Civil Wars. He is the creative director for the Early Modern Portfolio for the military history publishers Helion & Co. and created the “Century of the Soldier 1618-1721” and the “From Retinue to Regiment 1453-1618” series for them. Charles’ talk on Marston Moor will take place at 12 noon on Saturday 24 August 2024 and will be accompanied by a simulation of the battle. Please contact Philip Marshall on 07946 041733 or through the contact page on this site if you would like to attend.
