The NHSA is delighted to welcome Dr. Gregory Coates again as our speaker for this event in which we study the battle of Philippi, the last and decisive confrontation between “the Triumvirs”, Octavian and Anthony, and “the Liberators”, Cassius and Brutus, during the Civil Wars of the Roman Republic. Gregory graduated with first class honours from Oxford University and completed his doctorate in Classics at King’s College, London. His research specialises in the political and military history of the concluding years of the Republic, with an emphasis on the Civil Wars of the first century BCE. His publications cover the dictatorship of Lucius Cornelius Sulla and the career of Julius Caesar. This event will take place at 1.30 pm on Saturday 25 October 2025 and will be accompanied by a small exhibition and a simulation of this great conflict. Please contact Philip Marshall on 07946 041733 if you would like to attend.
